Program Description

The International Virtual e-Hospital (IVEH) in collaborations with USAID/Albania and Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC/MRMC), Fort Detrick, Maryland, is organizing a three-day intensive workshop on current practices and principles of telemedicine and e-Health that will be held in Tirana, Albania, October 21-23, 2007. This intensive workshop is part of the scheduled activities of International Virtual e-Hospital (IVeH) Foundation (www.iveh.org/projects.htm), a non-profit organization, that is implementing a two-year project “Improving Health Care in the Balkans Using Telemedicine, Advanced Technologies and Cultural Exchange Program as a Platform”, funded by the Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs Agency of the Department of State of the USA. During these three days, participants will review the most current principles and practices of telemedicine and e-Health  by   some of the most renowned speakers and experts on Telemedicine and e-Health from the universities, and representatives of international associations and other organizations of telemedicine and e-Health in the world (Speakers)
A special program will highlight the activities of the Telemedicine and Advanced Technology Research Center (TATRC/MRMC) of a special session tentatively called  “ Military Telemedicine and e-Health: From Laboratory to Battlefield,” where TATRC experts will discuss in detail the entire spectrum of current projects and future

We expect that doctors, nurses, technical personnel, hospital administrators and anyone who is interested in telemedicine, e-Health and medical informatics from the Balkan countries in this region will be present at this seminar. All participants of International Virtual e-Hospital fellows and alumni from the Balkan countries will participate.  In addition to doctors, nurses, engineers, and administrators of countries in the region we  have invite the representatives of the Ministries of Health of Albania, Macedonia, Montenegro, Kosova, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Greece, Romania, Hungary, and Bulgaria to participate. The officials from Council of Europe and other European organization will particpate as well.

The first Intensive Balkan Telemedicine Seminar, held in Prishtina October 24-26,2002 Kosova, was an immediate success, hosting over twenty-one countries and four hundred people during the three-day event.  It was a landmark meeting that brought together the Balkan and world community before twenty-five speakers from all over the world, and opened the way to telemedicine in the Balkans.  We anticipate even more diversity, more in-depth talks, and more progress for Telemedicine and e-Health during the event in 2007.

We believe that this will be an important avenue for you to demonstrate and showcase the telemedicine and virtual educational programs that are being done, and to expand on establishing telemedicine programs in this part of the world.
