LETTER FROM PROJECT DIRECTOR

January 1, 2007

As we start 2007, it is a great honor and privilege for me to welcome you as a participant of the Kosova Foundation for Medical Development project that is dedicated to improving healthcare in the Balkans using telemedicine, advanced technologies and cultural exchange programs as a platform. Let me express my profound gratitude and respect for your interest in our program and for your dedication to become a leader in the field of telemedicine, advanced technologies and improving healthcare in Kosova, as part of the global improvement of healthcare in the Balkans.  Personally, your dedication to participate in this program means a lot, but it will mean a great deal to your institution and to Kosova’s overall healthcare. As the Project Director of this program, I take great pride in selecting you as one of the  best and the brightest among  physicians, nurses and biomedical engineers, willing to change the status quo of medical care in Kosova, by introducing and advancing technologies as a platform for improvement of our healthcare.

Let me briefly summarize what is expected of you during this process and after the project has ended sometime in 2008.

By staying abreast of new information that will be available through our website and other sources you are expected to advance your knowledge of telemedicine, electronic library and e-health management. In addition, I personally hope that you will continue to exercise leadership by sharing your knowledge of telemedicine with your peers, colleagues, patients, and your community. We expect nothing but the deepest dedication and intense involvement during this process in which you will be trained by some of the best programs of telemedicine in the United States: the Alaska Federal Health Care Access Network in Anchorage, Alaska, as well as the Arizona Telemedicine Program in Tucson, Arizona. We expect that you will perform with your utter most dedication during your visit to the United States

Your training in the United States will only begin the life long studies of applications of telemedicine, electronic library and advanced technologies in modern health care.

We hope that you will be able to identify your special niche and interest in telemedicine and become an expert in the field.
Our process of selecting you as one of the participants was based on your personal goals for growth and strategies for future development of telemedicine and e- health in Kosova and the region.

You are expected to participate diligently in all of our Virtual Education Series as well as invite friends, colleagues and others to participate in this program. We think that these courses will have a tremendous value for advancing the education process overall in telemedicine and e-health.

If at any time during this program, you have any comments or problems that I personally need to address, please do not hesitate to contact me immediately. You can do so this directly at Rlatifi@email.arizona.edu or through our coordinator Dr. Ismet Lecaj at ismet.lecaj@telemedks.org.

We will continue to implement our program diligently as much as humanly possible, however, there will be times when the agenda could change without any advanced notice and I ask you for your cooperation and your understanding should such situations arise.

The professional team of volunteers of KFMD led by Kathe Boucha and myself  will do everything in its power to make your participation as smooth and as pleasant as possible, but I am sure there will be unforeseen issues that we will have to deal with.

Let me reiterate at the end that I am extremely pleased, happy and honored that you have selected to participate in this program, knowing very well that you will have to disrupt your family life by travels to the United States for training as well as continuously participate in virtual education programs that are a part of this tremendously important program for our country and the Balkans.

With great wishes for many successful years to come to you and your family, I welcome you to our program and wish you the best of luck..
